People cannot change the fact they have leukemia but they can change their lifestyle to accommodate for it and ensure that their body and mind are well. Lifestyle changes might include:
Eating healthier.
Eating healthy is extremely important for the body but even more so for leukemia patients. People obtain the nutrients the body requires through the foods they eat. For leukemia patients who will soon be going through intense treatment processes such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy, it is important that their body has enough of the right nutrients to help them which comes from eating a healthy diet. Furthermore, eating healthy can boost the immune system which is extremely important, particular for leukemia patients since their immune system is very weak, because it will help patients to better combat the cancer.
Reduce alcohol intake and stop smoking.
Consuming alcohol and smoking can reduce the immune system significantly. It is essential that leukemia patients have the best immune system possible so that they can fend off leukemia cells therefore they should reduce alcohol intake and stop smoking to better their health.
Exercising and resting.
People treated for leukemia often feel fatigued, an extreme tiredness that results from bone weary exhaustion. This tiredness does not get better with rest. Instead, it gets better with exercise. It is important that the exercise routine takes into consideration the patient's body conditions. If the patient did not exercise before the leukemia treatment, he/she should start off with basic exercise routines such as walking. Although it is important to exercise, it is also important to rest. If your body is telling you to rest, take a rest. Do not force yourself to exercise when you are tired. Take a break then start over again.
